July 30, 2008 MEDIVAC: On Thursday, July 31, 2008, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Aviation/ S.A.R. Unit was dispatched by the Ventura County Fire Department to an injured person who was electrocuted while working in an orchard near Bardsdale Cemetery.

July 23, 2008 THOUSAND OAKS / NEWBURY PARK VEHICLE BURG. ARRESTS: Results from an ongoing investigation and tips from local citizens recently led to the arrests of 6 individuals related to the thefts from vehicles and burglaries of vehicles. All the suspects lived in the Newbury Park or Thousand Oaks area. Two of the arrestees were adults.

SEARCH WARRANTS / 33 ARRESTS:  On 7-18-2008, The Ventura County Sheriff’s Gang Unit led a multi agency enforcement sweep in the communities of Saticoy, El Rio and Nyeland Acres. The Sheriff’s Department planned the sweep in an effort to reduce violent crime in its jurisdiction.

MOORPARK SEXUAL ASSAULT: On April 7, 2008, a victim reported she met with Joseph Niles, a 36-year-old male from the City of Moorpark.  Niles claimed he was a certified fitness/Pilates instructor and massage therapist operating a business under the name of Quantum Fitness.  During a consultation, Niles talked the victim into having a massage and sexually assaulted the victim while she was asleep.  Niles was arrested on 07/03/2008 for the sexual assault.


July 16, 2008 NYELAND ACRES SHOOTING ARREST:   On July 16, 2008, 17-year-old Baltazar Islas was charged with Street Terrorism and Assault with a Firearm in Ventura County Superior Court. Islas will be tried as an adult for his part in a drive-by shooting that occurred in the community of Nyeland Acres in May 2008.

THOUSAND OAKS CITIZEN ACADEMY: The Thousand Oaks Police Department is offering its 23rd Citizen Academy starting Wednesday September 3, 2008.  There is limited space open for this unique civilian program.  The curriculum offers an experience to get an in-depth look at local law enforcement and its diverse operations.

TIP-A-COP: Tip-A-Cop, Camarillo will have representatives of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department volunteering their time to become “celebrity servers” with all tips becoming tax-deductible donations to Special Olympics Ventura County.


July 12, 2008 FILLMORE BANK ROBBERY: At approximately 10:15 AM on Saturday, July 12th, 2008, (S) Phillip Guevara entered the Fillmore Branch of Santa Barbara Bank & Trust. Guevara approached a teller at the bank and said he wanted a large sum of money, then passed a demand note for a smaller amount a few moments later.
July 11, 2008 MOORPARK RAPE: On July 11, 2008, at 4:54 A.M., Ventura County Sheriff’s Deputies assigned to the City of Moorpark responded to the area of Peach Hill in response to a 9-1-1 call from a female who said she was being attacked.  The line was then disconnected.  At about 5:08 A.M. deputies located a nude female wrapped in a window curtain on Peach Hill Road at Honeybee.
July 9, 2008 DOWNED AIRCRAFT: On 7-9-2008, at approximately 4:45 PM,  members of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department and the Ventura County Fire Department responded to the area of Tierra Rejada Rd east of Hwy 23  for a call of a downed aircraft. Deputies arrived on scene to find a small passenger plane on its roof in a field.
July 7, 2008 TRAFFIC ACCIDENT IN THOUSAND OAKS: On 7/7/08, at about 4 p.m. the Thousand Oaks Police Department was dispatched to an injury traffic collision on Hillcrest Dr. between Erbes and Rancho Rd.  Upon arrival deputies found that a pick up truck had struck a power pole, severing the pole and trapping the occupants.
July 7, 2008 MEDIVAC OF INJURED HIKER: On July 7, 2008, at approximately 1:20 P.M., (V) Chris Kegley was kayaking at Scorpion Harbor on Santa Cruz Island in the Channel Islands National Park.  While helping his wife with a kayak, Chris was hit by a wave and sustained an injury to his left leg.
July 5, 2008 FATAL TRAFFIC ACCIDENT IN FILLMORE:   Fillmore Patrol Deputies were dispatched to an injury collision in front of 1157 Ventura Street. The occupants were trapped in their 1987 Mazda pick-up truck that had collided with the rear end of a parked semi-truck trailer.
July 3, 2008 THOUSAND OAKS BANK ROBBERY:   An unidentified man used what appeared to be a simulated explosive device to threaten employees and customers during a bank robbery Thursday afternoon. The robber walked into the Citibank branch at the corner of Moorpark Road and Thousand Oaks Boulevard wearing a fisherman’s hat pulled down to his eyes and a white cloth covering his face
July 2, 2008 "GRANDMA" NARCOTICS ARREST IN NYELAND ACRES: In June 2008, Sheriff’s Narcotics Detectives received information that a subject known as “Grandma” was possibly selling  illegal drugs from a residence in the 3600 Block of Orange Drive, in the unincorporated area of Oxnard known as Nyeland Acres.
July 2, 2008 FATAL PLANE CRASH IN PIRU:    On July 2, 2008, the Ventura County Sheriff and Fire Departments responded rescue crews to a reported plane crash in a citrus orchard just north of 2500 East Guiberson in the farming community of Piru. Upon arrival, they found a Cessna 152 single engine plane that had crashed into a brush-covered ravine just south of the Santa Clara River. The plane had exploded on impact and was fully engulfed in flames and the pilot and sole occupant of the aircraft was deceased.
July 1, 2008 FILLMORE BURGLARY INVESTIGATION AND ARRESTS:   On June 3, 2008, the Fillmore Police Department investigated a residential burglary and felony vandalism in the 900 block of Wileman Street in Fillmore. As a result, police detectives identified the suspects as being tagging members of the All Faded Krew (AFK). A tagging crew such as AFK typically commits felony vandalism and other felonious crimes. They tend to conspire to destroy both public and private property. AFK is no exception, they burglarized the house on Wileman and kicked in the walls then stole numerous items.

Heat Issues: The National Weather Service in Los Angeles/Oxnard has issued a Special Weather Statement for Southwestern
California for the remainder of the week. Inland portions of the coastal plain will likely have high temperatures around 90 degrees while the inland valleys and lower elevations of the mountains are expected to be between 95 and 108 through Friday.

July 14, 2006 Moorpark Man Shoots Self After Pursuit: A Moorpark resident shot himself with a .22-caliber rifle at the end of a vehicle pursuit stemming from a minor traffic collision Friday morning.
July 9, 2006 Camarillo Critical Incident Update: On the morning of Sunday, July 9, 2006 , patrol deputies arrested a male subject after receiving 911 calls that the subject was running in and out of traffic lanes attacking cars and attempting to open the cars’ doors as they passed by in the area of Adolfo and Flynn Road , in the City of Camarillo .

July 9, 2006 Camarillo Critical Incident: Deputies responded to a ‘Check the Well Being’ call in the area of Avenida Acaso and Adolfo Road in Camarillo . Callers reported that a heavy set, Hispanic male running in and out of traffic lanes attacking cars and attempting to open the cars’ doors as they passed by. One motorist reported the man was beating on the hood of a car with a large stick.

July 7, 2006 Dog from Plane Crash Located: On July 1, 2006 , a small single engine plane crashed in a ditch near lemon groves in Somis. The Santoro family had been together in the plane along with their dog, Lindsey. Lindsey was nowhere to be found following the crash.


July, 2006 Implementation of Taser: After years of discussion, research, and planning, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department will be implementing the use of TASER devices by its Deputies in Mid-August 2006. TASER is a brand name for products manufactured by the TASER International Corporation.

July 6, 2006 Motor Deputy Accident: On July 6, 2006 , at 10:39 AM , Deputy Greg Guilin was driving a traffic enforcement motorcycle on Ventura Street near Santa Clara Street , in the city of Fillmore when he lost control and went down.
